Jar from the Early Ceramic Period depicting the female body. Part of the surface was decorated with red slip and the jar has an upward-pointing “tail” that also makes it bird-shaped. 

The ancient inhabitants of the Araucanía area of southern Chile stood out for their pottery. Its characteristic decoration and the techniques used are referred to as the Pitrén style.
