These triangular wooden cupboards, with two doors that can be closed from the outside with a latch, were a feature of classrooms during the Colonial period when they were used to punish children who had been naughty.

Over time, they fell out of use or came to be used as store cupboards. Today, the place where these cupboards were once placed - the corner - is still associated with punishment
